The AR-1 Squat Clean is a key training movement based around explosive power/force production through the LPHC (hips) and generating power in a systematic, vertical manner through your legs-> hips-> shoulders. Majority of the power is generated from your hips and legs and not necessarily your arms/upper body. However, once the first portion of the movement is complete, you will then shrug in an explosive manner using your traps and shoulders in order to keep vertical momentum of the sandbag to the “front rack” position. A key part to completing this movement that many neglect is your ability to “shoot” your elbows under/up and catch the sandbag (or bar) at your shoulders. The Squat Clean takes time to learn, but is essential to master.
